Timmins police report impaired driving charge and other actions after May 16, 2026 RIDE checkpoint

Timmins police say a RIDE checkpoint held the evening of Saturday, May 16, 2026 resulted in one drug-impaired driving charge, two seven-day licence suspensions for drivers who registered a blood alcohol concentration above 50 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood, and other charges.

The checkpoint took place during Canada Road Safety Week, a national road-safety enforcement campaign led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

Officers checked about 150 vehicles during the operation, police said.

Police said one driver was arrested and charged with impaired operation by drugs. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver received a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension.

In a separate case, police said one individual was charged with unsafe vehicle, driving while under suspension, and use plate not authorized. Police said the vehicle’s plates were seized and the vehicle was towed.

Officers made about 60 approved screening device demands during the checkpoint, police said.

Police said two drivers received seven-day licence suspensions after registering a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 50 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood.

Police also said one driver was charged with failing to comply with a Provincial Offences Act probation order after registering a blood alcohol concentration above zero.
