Timmins reports raw wastewater overflow at Whitney-Tisdale Pump Station #1 on Goldrush Street
A raw wastewater overflow was reported at the City of Timmins’ Whitney-Tisdale Pump Station #1 at 202 Goldrush St., starting at 4:54 p.m. on April 15, 2026, according to the city’s Environmental Services Department. The city listed the end date, end time and volume bypassed as TBD.
The notice also included a request for residents to conserve water during rainstorms, and it provided background on why bypasses and overflows can occur in the municipal system.
According to the department, municipal wastewater consists of 99% water from stormwater and from homes and businesses, including water from washing and flushing.
The city said a bypass or overflow can occur when a treatment plant or treatment process is overwhelmed, and that these events are often caused by heavy rainfall and/or snowmelt.
During a bypass or overflow, the city said partially treated wastewater is diverted away from a treatment process to prevent backups, overflows or damage to the system.
The city asked residents to conserve water during rainstorms by delaying or limiting laundry, long showers, or running the dishwasher. The notice also asked residents not to flush wipes.
