Timmins sets June 1 deadline to review school support designation ahead of Oct. 2026 election

Timmins residents should review their school support designation by June 1, 2026, to ensure Elections Ontario has the correct information ahead of the municipal and school board elections scheduled for Oct. 26, 2026, the City of Timmins says.

The designation helps determine which school board a voter supports in school board elections, and it is tied to a person’s property—whether they own or rent.

According to the city’s notice, Elections Ontario maintains Ontario’s Permanent Register of Electors for provincial, municipal and school board elections. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for collecting school support designation information.

The city says school support applies to both homeowners and tenants. Each property is linked to a school board even if there are no children in the household, or if children are not currently attending school.

Residents are not required to make a designation, but they can choose which school board to support, the city says. If no choice is made, the designation defaults to the English-public school board.

More information is available through MPAC at mpac.ca/schoolsupport.
