Town of Cochrane links dog-control reminder to snowbanks and increase in calls

The Town of Cochrane said April 14 that residents should keep dogs properly secured on their property. The town linked the reminder to recent high snow accumulation and said it has seen an increase in dog-related calls, adding that snowbanks may make it easier for dogs to escape.

The reminder comes as temperatures warm and snow begins to melt in Cochrane, a time when changing conditions can affect fences, yards and access points around homes.

In its notice, the town said the increase in calls follows heavy snowfall this season. The town stated that snowbanks can create higher surfaces that may allow dogs to get out of enclosures more easily.

The town’s notice cited safety concerns for residents, visitors and pets as the reason for asking dog owners to take precautions.

The reminder also points residents to the town’s Dog Control By-law (Bylaw 124-2001).
