Transport Canada Constructs Prototype Building in Eight Days
Transport Canada has completed the construction of a prototype building in eight days at the former Killaloe Airport site. The 380-square-foot structure was assembled using pre-fabricated panels from FLEX Structure, a company based in British Columbia. These panels are designed to be insulated, durable, and weather-sealed, contributing to the building's energy efficiency.
The project is part of Transport Canada's exploration of new construction technologies aimed at reducing building times. Potential applications for this technology include utility and storage buildings, operation centres, and emergency response structures that can be easily relocated.
Invest Ottawa, in partnership with Transport Canada, will conduct tests on the building's durability and functionality over the coming months. The results will be shared with the builder, and a final report is anticipated by summer 2025. Funding for this initiative was provided by Innovative Solutions Canada, a program under Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada.
